Idaho should allow private companies to build Video Lottery Terminals. Video Lottery terminals are like a computerized scratch-off tickets. They are hooked up to a centralized computer system and instead of players playing against the house they are playing against each other. The Idaho lottery commission would be in control of the centralized computer system while private companies would manage the terminals.
There are three main benefits I would like to highlight
The state could tax net winnings (gross income minus player’s winnings). This would bring new revenue to the state. Right now gambling revenue leaves the state to Nevada or to Indian Reservations instead of staying here.
This would create new high paying jobs. Just to run the terminals you would need Techs to help set up and maintain the machines. Attendants to help patrons of the machines play by paying jackpots, seeing to their need. Security officers would be needed to maintain order and a team to pull money from the machines and count it. That’s just a few of the different types of people needed.
This would bring money into the state. Idaho resorts could offer gambling to help get people to visit.
