driver license renewal appointments
I think it would be a huge time saver if DMV could implement some way of having sort of a "fast pass" lane (like at Disneyland). People could sign up for an appointment to have their driver license renewed and then, at the appointment time, they bring in their appointment confirmation and they are allowed to go to the front of the line.

Eliminate the POST certification process for probation officers
Currently probation officers must be post certified. This means 3 weeks away from the job funded by the taxpayer. In these tight budget years, elimination of this requirement could save major dollars for the state and counties.

state police- save money
I agree with getting rid of the state police and letting the sheriff's office do it, but i can not see that happening. What about puting them in counties that want them and use them. Some counties do not even use ISP. That would then save money by not hiring more officers . Also why does ISP new officers go to 12 more weeks of police academy after they do the regular 10 weeks like other non isp officers. Get rid of that. They are no better then other officers- that would save a ton of money!

State police - Detectives
Is it really true that the state police have investigators (detectives) ? Why are we wasting money on investigators if each city police and sheriff’s office have detectives. Looks like another place to save some money.

State police- registration fee
I just noticed that when I went to register my license plates that I had a $3 fee for ISP. It looks like I have done this for a few years. So where is this money going? If the state is in that bad of shape for money, and they are getting extra money already to pay ISP officers, maybe the state should stop hiring officers or replacing officers that leave.

Texting and Driving!
Texting and driving has become a serious issue across the United States. It has been shown that the inattentiveness of a driver who is texting is just as dangerous as a drunk driver. It is apparent that this has become a huge problem with teenagers. I am currently attending a high school and am constantly confronted with this issue. It is extremely dangerous and there needs to be a way to fix this ongoing problem. I think one way to not only improve the safety of Idaho's roads but also increase the state's revenue would be to implement a fine…

Online Payments for probation or parole supervision.
Any person under state probation or parole supervision is required to contribute fifty dollars ($50.00) per month for the costs of supervision incurred by the department of correction to supervise probationers and parolees. Currently only money orders are to be used for collection of funds. Improved payment options and online bill pay should be created.

ISP - Roadside payments for citations
The ISP should accept road side payments to reduce court costs and save citizens time.

Send many fewer people to prison
Non-violent offenders should be sent to jail much less often. For those who committed non-violent crimes who also did not harm/steal the property of others, no jail time at all. In fact, why is anything that does not harm another person or another person's property a crime at all?

Spend less on inmates in jail
One way that could help reduce so much of the money spent in the public safety category of Idaho’s budget could be to simply reduce just how much money is spent on inmates who are actually doing time in jail. My mom works Ada County, and she tells me how many people basically provide for those inmates. I think they shouldn’t get as much care as they already do receive. I think that less needs to be spent on their health services, food, living space, and other benefits they get. They are in jail for a reason; giving inmates the…

The Police
i would suggest eliminating both the state Police and the city police departments and letting the county sheriff's departments take care of the law enforcement duties, this would save millions in duplicated services and also put one elected official responsible for their respective counties law enforcement duties. change the Idaho constitution to reflect that.

Increase Seatbelt and Speeding Fees
Increasing the penalty for not wearing Seatbelts would immediately increase revenue through fees and encourage wear them. IF you choose not to--great, but be willing to pay FINANCIALLY for taking that risk.
Likewise, raising speeding fees will decrease speeding and increase income.
No brainer.

Prohibit Cell Phone use while driving.
Seriously. It causes drivers to be more inattentive than a drunk driver. This includes texting and even receiving a phone call.

cutting spending on correctional facitilities
My idea for our state to save money is to cut the spend in the correctional facilities. People that commit crimes sometimes have better accommodations than people in our state that have not committed crimes. They are placed in jail because they did something wrong, we should not be spending more money on criminals than the honorable people in our community. Cutting this spending will not only save Idaho money, but it will teach criminals the lessons of doing wrong in life.

Deport Incarcerated Illegal Aliens
Deport all incarcerated illegal aliens back to their country of origin. If they re-enter, then shouldn't it become a federal immigration issue?

Dept of Juvenile Corrections- more funding
I don't know how many Juvenile offenders become adult offenders. It seems if the state of idaho were to invest "trades" training in DJC, this might prevent recidivism. Give these kids some skills that empower them to be successful once released. Can the DJC partner with AmeriCorps? Maybe prior to their release, they spend time at AmeriCorps for lifeskills, with the feds paying the bills.

Reinstate Good Time
If an inmate has followed his prescribed plan and has demonstrated good behavior, assess whether he is eligible for "good time". This reinforces good behavior from inmates, reducing risk for our correctional officers, while reducing general funding for correctional costs.
