An error occurred while saving the comment danielo commentedYup, agree with this, and it's happening, as NOITALL2010 points out.

An error occurred while saving the comment danielo commented"If everyone was responsible for themselves, we wouldn't need this, but that isn't the case."
And therein lies the crux, for me. Let's solve the central problem, which is that individuals should bear the cost of their own actions. Yes, if I am injured more seriously because I choose to not wear a seatbelt, I should pay for it.
As with others, I choose to wear a seatbelt because it makes logical sense.
An error occurred while saving the comment danielo commentedCount me as against this one as well. Joe said it well.

An error occurred while saving the comment danielo commentedI like the idea, but wonder why the systems we have in place cannot handle this. Typically, a boss decides if some of his employees have become obsolete. Why can't the Governor make this call annually?

An error occurred while saving the comment danielo commentedCan't say I disagree with your premise, Jethro, but I suspect "Eliminate the Central Government" would be a difficult sell. Frankly, anything less than this will always be pennies thrown at a (million)dollar-sized problem.
An error occurred while saving the comment danielo commentedI agree with NOITALL2010, though not to the exclusion of my initial idea. Right now, state-owned parking lots in the Capital Mall become "free" public parking after hours. Very few people know this, and so they sit empty. Making them pay lots after hours for the public would not only increase revenue to offset the cost of maintenance, but would increase available spaces for public use in evenings and on weekends.

An error occurred while saving the comment danielo commentedYes indeed. This will sound overly pessimistic -- and so be it -- but I see this as another "look how much we (seem to) care" line item on a government accountability report. When I worked for the State, there were many such "programs" that looked great on paper.

An error occurred while saving the comment danielo commentedAgain, I side with Joe (and Debbie) on this. Legislators should be treated as the SERVANTS they are.
I'm with Joe again. There is enough money wasted by the system now to handle the fiscal "issues" that seem to exist.
